Burning Books

25/08/2019Dan Flanders

Written by Jess Green, Burning Books started its life as a music and poetry show in 2014. In 2016, Jess developed the show into a stage play which went on to tour nationally with help from Arts Council England.

We approached Jess about adapting the script for film in 2018 and Jess was really interested in the project. Initially, we agreed on setting out to produce just one scene from the play, which Jess kindly adapted for us. This scene would allow us to shoot some conceptual shots as a proof of concept that would allow us to take the idea of adapting the whole play for screen to funding bodies.

Setting out to produce this scene on a shoestring budget, we were very fortunate to bring Blue Merrick and Therese Collins in to play Mrs. Sizzly and Janine once again as they had done previously on stage, as well as Laura Peterson to play Kat. We borrowed a space at Rawlins Academy in Quorn, Leicestershire and hired in equipment from 3 degrees media.

This project is currently in post-production. Check back for updates!
